and success of all participants in her training classes.  Geneva Montano is my assistant, she brings the connection and experience of a younger Doula.  To Penny and Geneva, the training material and the instruction process are the first steps in the formation of successful professional Doulas.  In their classes, a human connection will develop between the participants and the instructors.  This connection will lay the foundation for personnel and professional success for Sterling Doula participants.

What is exceptional and distinctive about Sterling Doulas is the commitment of Penny and Geneva to the continual support and mentorship for Sterling Doulas.  This support and mentorship is a unique commitment both during the certification process and as a resource during their professional careers.  Sterling Doula Trainers teach, mentor and maintain.


Penny has been happily married since the late 1960’s.  A mother of four successful adults and a grandmother to seven.  Penny specializes in love, life and caring for others.  As a professional Doula she is involved in the following:

Penny Sterling Lyon has been working with birth givers, families and care providers since 1976.  Penny has been a Certified Birth Doula since 2001.  She became a DONA approved Birth Doula Trainer in 2012.  Based on her many years of involvement with birth givers, Penny has developed an open philosophy on the birth experience.  This philosophy includes a commitment to fostering realistic expectations and promoting flexibility during the birth process.
